IAF'S SUKHOI 30 TO BE PLATFORM FOR SUPERSONIC BRAHMOS MISSILES

Sukhoi-30 fighter jet on 21 November 2013 has been selected as the platform to mount the supersonic BrahMos missiles by the Indian Air Force. The first test launch will be carried out by the end of 2014.
The air version of the BrahMos missile is ready but testing; simulations and aircraft modifications will take about a year. Thus the final flight with the missile will be done only at the end of 2014.
This is the only supersonic cruise missile platform in the world with abilities to travel at the supersonic speed and it can also be launched from both the sea and land. The BrahMos missile was jointly developed by the Indian and Russian Army in early 2000s and has since been inducted by the Army and the Navy. An air platform, has however, not been completed yet.

The Sukhoi Su-30MK aeroplane has been designed on the platform of the Su-27UB. It is in the series production in Komsomolsk-on-Amur and in Irkutsk. It is a two seat highly manoeuvrable fighter designed for air-superiority and strikes at ground and naval surface targets using a variety of guided and unguided ADO, with an option of supporting group actions.
The negotiations to supply the Su-27 type fighter started in 1994 and the design bureau started the development of Su-30 based plane for India's Air Force in 1995. A.F. Barkovsky was appointed chief designer of the project.

BrahMos is the first supersonic cruise missile known to be in service. BrahMos Weapon Complex first version was inducted in the Indian Navy from 2005 with INS Rajput as the first ship. The first regiment of BrahMos missile Block (A1) with the formation of N816 missile regiments and the deliveries started to the Indian Army in 2007.
