First MAHATHIR AWARD for Global Peace

The former South African President Nelson Mandela on 27 August 2013 was honoured with the first Lifetime Campaigner for Peace and Freedom of the Mahathir award for Global Peace while former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir received the Lifetime Campaigner for Gloabal Peace award from the Mahathir Global Peace Foundation.The awards were presented at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC),Putrajaya,Malaysia for their contribution to world peace.
Current South African President Jacob Zuma accepted the award on behalf of Mandela from Tun Dr Mahathir. Nelson Mandela is in a critical condition in a hospital in Pretoria. He struggled for peace in the South Africa after the apartheid and also struggled for peace in the world.
The Mahathir Award for Global Peace is a peace award instituted by the Mahathir Global Peace Foundation. The foundation was formed to contribute to worldwide peace efforts. The Mahathir Award for Global Peace will be given annually to recognise those who have made considerable efforts in promoting peace. It aims to inspire and motivate individuals and organisations to work towards the continual attainment of peace for mankind.
Tan Sri Dato Sri Paduka Dr Lim Kok Wing is the Initiator and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Mahathir Award for Global Peace Foundation. He has several campaigns for global peace to his credit.

Mahathir bin Mohamad is a Malaysian politician who was the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia. He held the post for 22 years from 1981 to 2003, making him Malaysia's longest serving Prime Minister. He was the world's longest-serving elected leader when he retired. He was succeeded by Abdullah Badawi.
